Azure Ray make it to Comet to charm us effortlessly again and promote their new album Drawing Down The Moon.
Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor wowsed us with their Hold On Love album in 2003 and it’s been a long time coming this new album, also released on the excellent Saddle Creek Records. In between they’ve had other bands and solo albums, Maria Taylor even popped by to say hi to Berlin at the old Magnet in a one-off show with Chad van Gaalen and The Whispertown 2000, a fun night if I remember correctly. Taylor oozes class and charm on stage and has the voice to back it up, velvety and lush, it’s got a hint of a country drawl, Fink offering perfect accompaniment through their tales of heartbreak.
So, if you’re thinking you’ll go see some lame, over-priced cinema at the Berlinale, don’t, go see this band instead.
